I am not a political pundit, nor do I claim to fully understand the intricacies of the health insurance reform bill of which Mr. Obama seems to be so proud.
However, I do recognize the familiar aroma of political bull.
The centerpiece of Mr. Obama’s campaign for presidency was the advent of affordable health insurance, health insurance for all. The campaign promise was dubbed Obamacare.
Obamacare appears to do nothing to aid the currently uninsured. It appears that those who can barely afford health insurance now will be paying more, and those who can easily afford health insurance will be paying less.
Where’s the reform? Mr. Obama is merely rearranging the chaos that is the health care industry and calling it a new plan.
The stakeholders in the health care part of the health insurance industry – the occupants of the executive level in hospitals and pharmaceutical companies, and doctors who kowtow to the insurance industry- eagerly anticipate the arrival of millions of new customers. The hospitals want MRIs for everyone with a headache. Prescriptions will be flying over the pharmacy counters. Doctors will hardly have to look at their patients; they’ll get paid over and over again…. Oh the golf vacations they envision!
The stakeholders in the insurance part of the industry, the executives who decide that the insured should not actually be given treatment once they fall so ill they need extensive medical care, are dancing the victory dance. They know that the so-called socialism of Obamacare is a myth. They know premiums will skyrocket and government subsidies will flow and all will be right in their world.
The uninsured, people such as me and my family, who live on part time paychecks and unemployment, will remain uninsured.
Smell that? It’s the aroma of Obamacare.

Obamacare as currently written is a convoluted, contrived mess AND we will get to pay for abortions! Obama could care less what's in the bill he just wants it passed so he can have a "legacy" even, apparently, a legacy of shame.
Hubbers
Pelosi slipped in a STUDENT LOAN BILL in the healthcare bill now being reviewed by house members.Smoke and mirrors again, the people need to wake up and contact their representatives and put them on alert of loosing their jobs.
Hi Shelly, I pray that by the time this response is written, that your situation has improved. You sounded very angry and I understand, I was you. A family with not medical insurance, the constant scare that something would happen to my children and I couldn't afford to take them to the doctor. Barely ekeing out a living on poor wages, I had to work 3 parttime jobs from 8am to 10pm.
It's unfortunate that the stupid democrates could not explain the Healthcare Reform Bill and more disgustingly, the republicans took advantage of this poor comunication to missinform the public for thier own political gain.
By now you probably know that the helthcare will be affordable to all..with gov. assistance for those who need it. You also know now that the states can opt out of the plan and that there is no mandate! Your children can stay on your insurance until they are 26 (no extra cost). Business are given a hugh tax break if they pay into the plan for thier employees. Over time health care cost will be lowere for all the more people that pay into it. The only draw back will be the seniors. As they move closer to medicare age, they will probably drop out of the plan. The CBO estimates that this might raise the cost "a little" but this will not be clear until the plan has been in place for at lest 10 years.
The student loans are now being paid through the government. The middle man (banks) have been taken out. For instance a student was required to pay the bank $175.00 per month, taking the bank out, the student pays directly to the gov. $100.00. Pres Obama stated, "why should the banks get richer on the backs of students"? The Pres. has also instituted ways a loan can be repaid, by a graduate performing a community service for 2 years which will reduce or in some cases eleminate the loan amount. The Pres. has stated that graduates should not be in financial trouble/bankrupted for wanting to improve themselves. There are many more items in the bill geared toward helping the american people..Giving back what the Pres. states was long over due. Unfortunately, this message has not gotten out. The democrates run and hide under the bed when a republican walks by. They know whats in the bill, but are to afraid to speak. Remember they all voted for it..they are hoping that once the bill is fully initated, the public will thank them, without having to face the brunt of the hateful republican machine now!
You could be right Shelly, but what do you have now? The health bill has not gone into effect. I would rather be positive that it will help. All the 9 governors are taking away medicare or making seniors pay more. Jan Brewer declared that transplants didn't work, she has cosigned 600 people to death by taking certain provision out of medicaid and medicare. Obama made a mistake puting the implentation way out in the interim people are dying. People like you have no insurance, I wish there was something to do about that today...the bill needs to go into effect. If my faith proves wrong, well, I had a dream for awhile.
Insurance reform does nothing for me! I can't afford insurance or health care of any kind, and being self employed, I am not eligible for any kind of assistance, so I just do without.
What we need is Single Payer Universal health care. We already pay enough in taxes to cover every person in the US. We just aren't getting the coverage. Having Single Payer would not prevent people who choose to pay through the nose for insurance from doing so, but at least those of us who have nothing would have some basic coverage.
Despite Monster Santorum's protestations, people do indeed die from lack of health care coverage. I pay self-employment taxes at a higher rate than he pays taxes on the income he steals from We the People, and I live far below the poverty threshold. I have no health coverage at all, while Santorum and other so-called representatives of We the People enjoy full health coverage and a lifetime income at our expense while denying us even basic benefits.

My issue with what is being proposed is the "mandatory" nature of the bill. There is just no way people who are struggling can come up withe the money to pay the premiums... with the threat of fines or jail time? Do we really want to fine the poorest people in our country ... force them to choose insurance over food, shelter? Credits are NOT money. Credits are only available when you file your taxes. Until then how do you pay the premiums? I'd like to see a plan that works in the best interests of everyone... who wouldn't. But what I'm seeing so far is just another tax on the citizen.
